FOI Win in Georgia: Defamation Law Repealed

An archaic law prohibiting criminal defamation has been repealed in Georgia, writes Matt J. Duffy, an SPJ Georgia member, and member of SPJGA First Amendment, FOI and Ethics Committee. Georgia removed its criminal libel statutes last month, and although the statute hadn’t been used in decades, this protects journalists from being arrested for exercising free speech.
