We have two fantastic conferences to announce!
The annual Region 10 conference will take place on May 6 in Portland at the Eliot Center. The “Build a Better Journalist” conference, hosted by the SPJ Oregon Territory Chapter, will bring together journalists from across Region 10 for a day of workshops, panels, and industry discussion. Tickets are $20–$25 and includes light breakfast and catered lunch.
Also on May 6 is the Washington Collegiate Journalism Conference at University of Washington in Seattle. The conference is open to student journalists from across the region and will include lunch and a tour of The Daily Newsroom, topics geared toward student journalists, and a keynote speech from KING5’s chief investigative reporter Susannah Frame. Tickets for the college conference are just $12.
Typically Mark of Excellence awards are distributed at the Region 10 conference, but this year they will be available at the Washington Collegiate Journalism Conference. Please note that students are welcome to attend either event, but if you plan on attending the Region 10 conference in Portland, email Region 10 director Ethan Chung by May 1 so he can have your MOE award available. If MOE winners do not choose to attend a conference, their MOE awards will be mailed to their student chapter advisors.
Defending the First Amendment and promoting open government are more crucial now than ever. Join SPJ's fight for the publics right to know either as an SPJ Supporter or a professional, student or retired journalist.
