Welcome to Liner Notes

By John Ensslin

This blog is devoted to promoting and celebrating excellence in SPJ programs.

It’s aimed at highlighting some of the best and most creative programs that SPJ chapters have to offer with the hope  that others will try their own versions of some of these events.

This blog is also your guide to a new kind of program called Studio SPJ.

Studio SPJ will be a series of half-hour Internet radio programs devoted to journalists talking on topics of interest to other journalists. Guests will include authors and newsmakers.

(A tip of the hat here to Holly Fisher for pioneering SPJ’s use of Blog Talk Radio.)

Various SPJ chapters will have an opportunity to host these programs in the months ahead.

If you’ve ever had trouble with the logistics of putting together an event or struggled to build an audience, then Studio SPJ can help.

The show provides a virtual program that can reach not only your chapter’s members, but a national audience as well.

So stay tuned for more details in the weeks ahead.

Studio SPJ with Dave Philipps

David Philipps

Join us Saturday, Jan. 22 at  noon Eastern Time for the premiere of “Studio SPJ” an Internet radio talk show featuring journalists from across the nation.

The first episode of this 30-minute program will feature a conversation with David Philipps, a reporter for the Gazette of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Philipps is the author of a new book called “Lethal Warriors – When the New Band of Brothers Came Home.”

The book describes the crime wave that occurred in Colorado Springs as soldiers who experienced intense fighting in Iraq returned home to Fort Carson with some of them suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This episode of “Studio SPJ” is sponsored by the Colorado Society of Professional Journalists. John Ensslin will host it.
